Current Projects20082008 was a busy year for damage claims. We did over 20 claims across Manitoba ranging from quick assessments of damage to weighty documents providing exhaustive details of damage causes, scope of damage, and amount of loss.
Things were a little quieter on the manure management front. We provided over 20 operations with manure management plans. We've been doing work with Manitoba Conservation and MAFRI's Nutrient Excretion Models to assist producers' planning for the new phosphorous regulations. John Heard from MAFRI wanted to try out Ramp Calibration Strips in Manitoba. A Ramp Calibration Strip is a strip in the field that is fertilized with increasing rates of N (0-200 in our strips). The purpose of the ramp calibration strip is to determine in-field if the crop is receiving too much or too little fertilizer. Several of our clients volunteered a strip of their fields for the ramp calibration strips. John presented a paper summarizing the results at the Manitoba Soil Science Society Annual General Meeting.
We spent a number of days out roguing hemp this summer. It was pretty easy when the hemp plants were small, but as they grew it got tougher and tougher. Tone Ag Consulting carried out a number of Land-use and Agronomic Assessments this fall for potato producers. We also did some Veris work to assess salinity levels in fields.
