I found this article from the India Times to be thought provoking: Now, agricultural info on mobile phones. In a lot of ways Tone Ag Consulting’s business revolves around getting information to and from farmers, applicators, and researchers. The Internet is a huge boon for getting us access to researchers and research data, but so far it hasn’t helped much in getting information to and from farmers and applicators. They’re usually too busy out actually getting stuff done to use email or links to web pages. Add in that they’re often working in areas with poor cell phone coverage and the Internet is not a great communication tool for reaching them. I would like to experiment a little more with text messaging to see if we can work that into our communications.
