It is vital and required by law that livestock manure be managed as a fertilizer in an environmentally sound manner.
The Livestock Manure and Mortalities Management Regulation (LMMMR) requires that livestock producers submit an
annual Manure Management Plan (MMP) to Manitoba Conservation if they have more than a designated number of
animals. This plan describes the storage and application of manure on an operation‐specific basis.
Producers can prepare an MMP themselves or with the assistance of a qualified manure management planner.
Do you wish to become a qualified manure management planner?
The LMMMR identifies the professional standards for third parties who prepare MMPs. Manitoba Conservation has
deemed that all individuals who successfully complete the Manure Management Planner course and are members of
the MIA/CCA in good standing will be allowed to prepare MMPs for clients. In partnership with Manitoba Conservation, Manitoba Water Stewardship and Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural
Initiatives, the MIA and Assiniboine Community College have developed a comprehensive course to ensure that
agrologists and Certified Crop Advisors are properly educated and trained to provide professional manure
management planning services.
The Manure Management Planner course consists of a home study manual, an optional two‐day seminar, an MMP
assignment and a 100 question, closed‐book, multiple‐choice exam.For details contact:
